THUNDER BAY – June 13, 2025 – Thunder Bay Fire Rescue responded quickly to an early morning blaze on North Marks Street after a 911 call reported a fire on a residential deck and smoke inside the home.
The call came in around 4:30 a.m., prompting an immediate response from local fire crews.
On arrival, firefighters encountered an active fire engulfing a wooden deck, with flames beginning to breach the home through a basement window.
A propane-powered appliance located near the structure is believed to have accelerated the fire’s spread, posing a serious threat to the home’s integrity.
Crews acted swiftly to bring the blaze under control, successfully limiting fire damage to the deck, exterior walls, and portions of the wall cavity. Their quick intervention prevented the fire from spreading further into the interior living space.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Fire Safety Reminder
Thunder Bay Fire Rescue is reminding residents to maintain safe distances between propane appliances—such as barbecues and deep fryers—and residential structures or other combustible materials. Proper spacing and placement can significantly lower the risk of accidental fires.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant and practice fire-safe habits, especially as summer outdoor cooking season continues.
