FORT FRANCES, ON – June 10, 2025 – The Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a serious collision involving a cyclist and a pickup truck in the Town of Fort Frances.
The incident occurred shortly before midnight on Saturday, June 7, at approximately 11:40 p.m. Emergency responders from the OPP, Rainy River District EMS, and Fort Frances Fire Rescue were dispatched to the intersection of Second Street East and Portage Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers determined that a pickup truck travelling along Second Street East struck a cyclist who was crossing the roadway at Portage Avenue.
The cyclist, a 50-year-old Fort Frances resident, sustained significant injuries and was first transported to a local hospital before being airlifted by ORNGE Air Ambulance to a trauma centre in Thunder Bay for further treatment.
The intersection was closed for several hours as OPP officers trained in collision reconstruction worked to document the scene and collect evidence.
