ATIKOKAN, ON – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are continuing to investigate a fire that completely destroyed a rural home on Nickleby Lake Road, east of Atikokan, on the morning of Thursday, May 29, 2025.
Emergency responders from the Atikokan OPP Detachment, Niobe Lake Fire Department, and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry’s Fire, Aviation and Emergency Services Branch were dispatched to the scene around 11:00 a.m., where they discovered a fully involved structural fire at a residential property.
While no injuries have been reported, the blaze completely consumed the residence and posed a serious threat to the nearby forested area, given the current high fire hazard conditions in the region.
