THUNDER BAY – LOCAL CRIME REPORT – A Thunder Bay woman is facing multiple charges following an investigation into suspected elder abuse and repeated thefts from a vulnerable person’s home.
The Thunder Bay Police Service’s Crimes Against Seniors Unit launched the investigation in March, after receiving a report from an elderly resident who suspected they were being repeatedly victimized by thefts inside their own residence.
The investigation identified a suspect who was employed as a personal support worker and had regular, unsupervised access to the individual’s home.
On Friday, May 16, police arrested:
🔹 Shaunna Lee-Ann COUZELIS, 45, of Thunder Bay
Charges:
-
Unlawfully in a Dwelling (x8)
-
Theft Under $5,000
COUZELIS appeared in court and was released from custody on conditions. She is scheduled for a future court appearance.
A second individual was also charged with Unlawfully in a Dwelling in connection with the investigation. Police have not released further details about the co-accused at this time.
Police Warning to Families and Caregivers
“This is another example of how vulnerable residents—particularly seniors—can be targeted by individuals in positions of trust,” Thunder Bay Police stated. “We encourage family members, neighbours, and friends to check in regularly and report any suspicions of financial or physical abuse.”
The Crimes Against Seniors Unit continues to investigate similar reports. Anyone who believes they or a loved one may have been victimized is asked to contact Detective Constable Kevin Middleton at (807) 684-1039.
