INTERNATIONAL NEWS – NETNEWSLEDGER – Mounting international pressure is being directed at Israel as the leaders of Britain, France, and Canada issued a joint ultimatum to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, demanding an immediate end to the renewed Israeli military offensive in Gaza and the lifting of aid restrictions that are deepening the humanitarian crisis.

The coordinated message from London, Paris, and Ottawa signals a significant escalation in diplomatic engagement from Western allies traditionally supportive of Israel. It comes amid growing alarm over famine conditions in Gaza and Israel’s announcement that it intends to take full control of the territory.

“The Israeli Government’s denial of essential humanitarian assistance to the civilian population is unacceptable and risks breaching International Humanitarian Law,” the joint statement declared.

Military Offensive Rekindles Global Outcry

The statement follows the Israeli military’s new operation launched last Friday, with Netanyahu vowing earlier this week to assume full control over Gaza. The renewed military action has drawn sharp rebukes from humanitarian agencies and global powers alike, citing escalating civilian casualties and a deepening humanitarian blockade.

Israel has largely halted the entry of fuel, food, and medical aid into Gaza since early March, aiming to pressure Hamas to release hostages taken during the militant group’s October 7, 2023 attack on southern Israeli communities.

Canada, Allies Say Escalation Is “Wholly Disproportionate”

While reiterating Israel’s right to self-defense, the leaders emphasized that the latest military actions represent a clear overreach.

“We have always supported Israel’s right to defend Israelis against terrorism. But this escalation is wholly disproportionate,” the statement reads.

The warning adds that if Netanyahu’s government continues its current path, the three countries are prepared to implement targeted sanctions, a move that would mark a major shift in how Western democracies approach Israel’s ongoing conflict with Hamas.

Backing Ceasefire Efforts and Palestinian Statehood

The statement also reinforced the trio’s support for the ongoing ceasefire negotiations led by the United States, Egypt, and Qatar, and added that the countries are now committed to recognizing a Palestinian state as part of a longer-term solution.

“We will not stand by while these egregious actions continue,” the joint message warns.

The shift toward state recognition is a key development in the long-stalled peace process and may set the tone for a post-war diplomatic roadmap.
