Thunder Bay Man Faces Multiple Charges After Violent Theft Incident on Balsam Street

Thunder Bay — May 18, 2025 – A Thunder Bay man is facing several criminal charges following a violent altercation at a local business on Balsam Street late Saturday night.

Thunder Bay Police Service Primary Response officers responded to reports of a disturbance shortly after 10 p.m. on May 17. The incident began when a male suspect was confronted by store staff and a customer while attempting to steal merchandise.

According to police, the suspect reacted aggressively, threatening both individuals before fleeing the store with unpaid items. Officers later located a man matching the suspect’s description nearby.

The suspect refused to comply with police commands and resisted arrest. Officers required additional support to safely place him into a patrol vehicle.

Caleb SHAGANASH, 33, has been charged with:

  • Theft Under $5,000

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime

  • Resisting Arrest

  • Uttering Threats (x3)

  • Assault

SHAGANASH has made a court appearance and has been remanded into custody, with a future court date scheduled.
