Snowy Surprises Before Victoria Day Sunshine

Big Trout Lake, ON – Winter won’t let go easily in Big Trout Lake this weekend, with icy conditions and frigid nights leading into a much sunnier and warmer Victoria Day.

Saturday: Icy, Windy, and Wintry

Saturday will feature periods of ice pellets changing to a 40 percent chance of flurries. North winds will gust up to 50 km/h, keeping the temperature steady near a frosty 1°C. The UV index is 2.

Tonight will remain cloudy, with an overnight low of -4°C – feeling more like mid-March than mid-May.

Sunday: Sunshine Fights Back

Sunday brings a turnaround, with clearing skies and a high of 9°C. Sunday night will be clear but cold again at -4°C. Victoria Day Monday finally brings sunny skies and a more comfortable high of 13°C, with a zero-degree clear night.

Big Trout Lake’s normal temperatures are 16°C by day and 3°C by night, but the weekend will keep residents reaching for their parkas.

Wardrobe Wisdom

This weekend calls for full winter gear, from thermal layers to toques and mitts. Monday’s sunshine will finally allow a lighter jacket and perhaps a hopeful pair of sunglasses.

Weather Trivia: Did You Know?

Big Trout Lake once saw snow on Victoria Day itself – in 1979, 3 cm of snow coated the community during the holiday weekend.
