ATIKOKAN, ON – News – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Atikokan stopped a vehicle driver for driving contrary to conditions and found them to be impaired by drugs.
On May 14, 2025, at approximately 5:00 pm, an officer with the Atikokan Detachment OPP stopped a vehicle in the O’Brien Street area to check for compliance with court imposed conditions.
Investigation determined that the driver was not compliant, and they were arrested at the scene. Signs of impairment were observed during the interaction and a field sobriety test was completed.
The driver failed the test and was brought before an OPP expert to complete a drug impairment evaluation.
Kyle BATES, 36-years-old, from Atikokan is charged criminally with: failing to comply with a release order other than to attend court, impaired operation alcohol and drugs, and possession of a Schedule I substance (cocaine).
The accused received a 90-day driver license suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for 7 days.
The accused was held by police for a bail hearing scheduled for May 15, 2025, in the Fort Frances Ontario Court of Justice.
