Weather Forecast: The Lakehead Region Conservation Authority advises that between 42 to 67 millimetres of precipitation has been recorded in area gauges overnight with the highest amounts recorded west of the City of Thunder Bay in the Corbett Creek and Whitefish River gauges.  Minimal additional precipitation is forecasted for the next few days.

Environmental Conditions: Area watercourses have risen rapidly in response to the rainfall overnight and are anticipated to continue to rise throughout Tuesday and remain high for some time.  The Whitefish River has peaked; however, remains at a very high level.  The Neebing-McIntyre Floodway has begun diverting water.

Risks: Flooding is occurring in low-lying areas and area watercourses are expected to continue to rise Tuesday which may result in additional flooding.  Flooded roads in the Townships of O’Connor and Gillies and Municipality of Oliver Paipoonge have been reported.

ACTION: The public is advised to pay attention to their surroundings and exercise caution in and around area waterways.  High flows and slippery banks can be dangerous.  Motorists are advised to never drive through a flooded road.  Parents and caregivers are advised to keep children away from all watercourses and discuss the hazards of cold fast flowing water.

A Flood Warning is issued when flooding is occurring or imminent.  Staff will continue to monitor conditions as part of its flood forecasting and warning program and provide updates as warranted.

Duration: This message will remain in effect until 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2025.
