Today’s Forecast: A Wet and Wild Monday Ahead!
DRYDEN – WEATHER – Hold onto your umbrellas, Dryden and Vermilion Bay! As of 5:01 AM CDT, it’s a soggy start at the Dryden Airport with temperatures hovering at 8.9°C. Although conditions weren’t officially observed at the time, the atmosphere tells the story: 100% humidity and visibility cut down to just 0.6 km thanks to dense fog.
Winds are currently whispering from the west at 4 km/h, but don’t get too cozy – things are about to pick up steam! The barometric pressure is sitting at 101.1 kPa and falling, signalling the brewing storm.
There is a Rainfall Warning for the area, with a staggering 30 to 50 mm of rain expected today. A low-pressure system is dragging along a hefty load of moisture, priming the region for heavy rain, a risk of thunderstorms this afternoon, and even localized flooding in low-lying areas. For drivers, visibility could be seriously impaired – lights on, slow down, and keep a safe distance!
Today’s high will creep to around 9°C, but it’s going to be a damp, blustery ride. Winds will shift northeast at 20 km/h later this morning, gusting to 40 km/h, and then escalate to 40 km/h with gusts reaching 60 km/h late this afternoon. Oh, and the UV index? It’s just a 1 — about as low as your chances of staying dry if you venture out without a raincoat.
Historical highs and lows for April 28th in Dryden remind us how fickle spring can be: the warmest on record was a lovely 24.8°C, while the chilliest hit a frosty -8.4°C. Today’s setup lands us somewhere in the damp middle.
Tonight: Rain Turns to Snow – No, You Didn’t Read That Wrong
Tonight is when the weather really decides to show off its range. Rain at times heavy will transition to periods of snow near midnight, ending before sunrise. Localized snowfall could amount to about 2 cm — just enough to confuse your spring wardrobe choices! Expect an additional 10 to 20 mm of rain before the changeover. Winds from the north will keep howling at 40 km/h, gusting up to 60 km/h, driving the temperature down to -6°C. Add the wind chill and it’ll feel more like a biting -12°C. Definitely a night to park the flip-flops back in the closet and bust out the winter boots… again.
Tuesday and Wednesday: A Brighter (and Warmer) Path Ahead
Tuesday, April 29th, offers a welcome turnaround. Skies will clear in the morning, with winds calming to light speeds after a brisk start from the north. Temperatures will rise to a manageable 7°C, though the morning wind chill will make it feel like a bitter -13°C initially. With a UV index of 6, sunshine will finally dominate, so don’t forget the sunscreen if you’re outdoors!
Tuesday night will be clear and cold, with a low dipping to -3°C.
Wednesday, April 30th, brings a mix of sun and cloud with a 40% chance of showers and a much more springlike high of 13°C. Showers could continue overnight with a low of +3°C. Spring, it seems, is determined to keep us guessing!
What to Wear?
Today: Rain jackets, waterproof boots, and maybe a life vest for good measure! Tonight, bundle up with a winter coat and mittens. Tomorrow: dress in layers that can transition from winter chill to sunny smiles by noon.
