Update #1 – Fatal Collision on Highway 17 Claims Life of Scugog Township Man

IGNACE, ON – A tragic accident occurred on September 26, 2024, at approximately 10:14 a.m., when Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) from the Ignace, Dryden, Shabaqua, and Thunder Bay detachments, along with Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS), responded to a fatal collision on Highway 17. The incident, which took place roughly 5 kilometers west of English River, involved a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) and a pedestrian.

The victim has been identified as a 58-year-old man from Scugog Township. By 6:00 p.m. on the same day, Highway 17 was reopened. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, but authorities have stated that no charges are being considered at this time.
