Winnipeg – Extreme Cold Grips Southern Manitoba

WINNIPEG – WEATHER – Travellers heading west from Ontario to Manitoba will enter the cold zone. Environment Canada has extreme cold warnings out for all of southern Manitoba.

Environment Canada says to expect increasing cloudiness by this afternoon. Winds up to 15 km/h are making the wind chill feel like -42c this morning. The forecast high is minus 23.

For tonight, the weather forecast is calling for partly cloudy skies. Winds will become southeast 20 km/h this evening. The temperature will rise to minus 18 by morning. Wind chill minus 34 this evening and minus 28 overnight.

In the City of Winnipeg and throughout southern Manitoba there are school closures, and school bus cancellations due to the weather.

If you are traveling this morning, there are highway closures in Ontario to keep in mind.

Extreme Cold Warning in effect for:

A period of very cold wind chills is expected.

Extreme wind chill values of -40 to -50 continue this morning.

The extreme wind chill values will begin to moderate today, for most regions, as a passing low brings warmer temperatures to the region. However, the cold will return for the weekend as more arctic air spills southeastwards across the region.
