Pedestrian Fatality – Woman dies after collision with Vehicle

THUNDER BAY – NEWS – A tragedy unfolded last night as a woman was struck by a vehicle and as a result has died.

Thunder Bay Police responded to a serious collision between a vehicle and a female pedestrian last night at 9:45 p.m. A TBPS Uniform Patrol supervisor and a nearby CP Railway Police officer arrived on scene and performed CPR on the victim. Fire and EMS then arrived on the scene and continued to provide the woman with emergency first aid. She was transported to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre by Superior North EMS, where she was later pronounced deceased.

The victim is a 49-year-old Thunder Bay woman. Next of kin notifications are still taking place at this time. She was in a wheelchair in a southbound lane of Memorial Avenue near 10th Avenue when she was struck by a southbound vehicle. The driver of the vehicle remained on scene, as did a number of witnesses.

The TBPS Traffic Unit continues to investigate this incident. Any witnesses or persons with information on this fatality who have not spoken to police are encouraged to contact the TBPS Traffic Unit at 684-1276.

Police are asking the public to “Please do not post any personal information regarding persons involved in this tragic incident or any speculation since we are still in the midst of an investigation”.
