Gaming Console Theft leads to Charges for 24-year-old

THUNDER BAY – NEWS – A determination to make off with a gaming console has led to charges laid by police in Thunder Bay against Alexander Smith HASSELL, a twenty-four-year-old man.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers were dispatched to the Walmart on 1101 Arthur Street after store officials reported a theft and an assault just after 10:30 am on Wednesday, March 13.

Investigating officers learned a male suspect entered the store and requested staff retrieve a gaming console from a locked cabinet. When the console was outside of the locked cabinet the accused attempted to exit the store without paying.

When confronted by a security guard the accused attempted to flee. He struck the security guard and assaulted another employee.

The security guard was able to gain control of the situation and the first arriving officer took the accused into custody.

The security guard and employee did not require medical attention.

HASSELL, now faces charges of Assault x 2 and Theft Under $5,000.

Alexander Smith HASSELL appeared in court Thursday morning and is scheduled to be released with a future appearance date.
