Police Update on Court Street Incident

THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay Police Service is providing some additional details to an incident that blocked off Court Street and Johnson Avenue on Monday afternoon.

Police report that a Thunder Bay Police Service officer attempted a traffic stop of a vehicle on Court Street near Ambrose Street just before 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 14, 2019.

The person driving a black sedan ignored the officer’s lights and continued down Court Street. The officer was in the process of discontinuing when he observed the vehicle striking a van that was travelling southbound near Renco Foods.

The vehicle came to a stop in the 100 block of Court Street South, at which point it is believed the driver fled on foot eastbound through the parking lot of Renco Foods and toward Johnson Avenue.

Police were unable to locate the suspect following a search of the area.

Through the course of the investigation, police have identified the suspect and continue to search for that individual.

Thunder Bay police state that the identity of the suspect is being withheld at this time, but the Thunder Bay Police Service is strongly encouraging this individual to turn themselves in.

The investigation continues.
