OPP – Rainy River Detachment Deals with Impaired Driving Incidents

FORT FRANCES – On January 11, 2019, at 11:30 pm, officers of the Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a motor vehicle for a Highway Traffic Act infraction, after speaking with a 17-year-old driver, he was subsequently arrested for an Alcohol/Drug related offence. He was transported to the Fort Frances Detachment and released to appear in court on January 28, 2019. His vehicle was towed from the scene and impounded for the mandatory 7 days.

Officers then on January 12, 2019, at 10:25 am, conducted a traffic stop on the 300 block of First Street East in Fort Frances. The driver, Sommer JONES, age 21 years of Fort Frances, On, failed the roadside test and was arrested and transported to OPP Detachment for breath tests. The vehicle was towed from the scene and impounded for the mandatory 7 days. The driver was subsequently charged with,

-Operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.

-She was also charged with Highway Traffic Act and Liquor Licence Act offences.

She will appear in Fort Frances Court on February 4th, 2018 to answer to the charge.
