Police Seek Witnesses to Cumberland Street Accident

THUNDER BAY – On July 6th, 2018, just prior to 11:30 pm, Thunder Bay Police were called to the intersection of Cumberland Street North and Villa Street regarding a collision that had occurred. Officers attended and the roadway was closed to traffic while an investigation was conducted.

The investigation has revealed that a Blue Hyundai was southbound on Cumberland Street North, turning left onto Villa Street. The Hyundai made a left turn directly into the path of two oncoming northbound motorcycles. Both motorcycles struck the passenger side of the Hyundai.

The driver and a passenger in the Hyundai were uninjured. Both drivers of the motorcycles suffered non-life threatening injuries and were transported to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Center for medical treatment.

The driver of the Hyundai, a 20-year-old Thunder Bay male, has been charged with an unsafe turning violation under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

There were several people in the area at the time of the collision due to the Blues Festival. If anyone witnessed the collision and has not yet spoken to police, please contact the collision investigators at 684-1276.
