The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is advising motorists to be aware of a traffic disruption when travelling on the private access road to Lac Des Iles Mine. Lac Des Iles Mine is located approximately 112 kilometres north of Thunder Bay on Highway 527.
Protest activities have prevented the flow of traffic on the private access road to the Lac Des Illes Mine. The OPP is working with those who have organized the protest to provide a safe and peaceful opportunity to exercise their lawful rights and to ensure public safety and order.

Progressive Conservative leader Doug Ford hosted a breakfast meeting at the Valhalla Inn this morning. The Conservative leader is making a final swing through Thunder Bay before June 7th’s election. This is Ford’s fourth trip through Thunder Bay since being elected leader.

A very busy night at the All Candidates Forum hosted by the Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by Acadia Broadcasting and NetNewsLedger. All of the candidates got the opportunity to share their viewpoints in what was a very respectful debate. The debate was hosted under the Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce rules, which include that all of the parties with seats in the legislature are represented.

Compost is available to all residents at no charge at the Solid Waste and Recycling Facility while quantities last, weather permitting. Access to the compost pick-up area is located east of the old landfill entrance on John Street Road. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5 pm, and Saturday from 9 am to 4 pm.
“We’re happy to again offer free compost to all residents,” said Jason Sherband, Manager – Solid Waste & Recycling Services. “Leaf and yard waste that’s picked up during our curbside collection programs is blended with organic waste and is ideal for use in landscaping, flower beds and lawns. It’s not suitable for vegetable gardens.”
Residents bringing garbage, recycling and/or hazardous household waste are reminded to dispose of these items at the Solid Waste and Recycling Facility on Mapleward Road first before visiting the special compost pick-up area. Residents are also advised to bring a shovel and some bags or containers to carry compost home. Quantities are limited to a maximum of one half-ton load per resident. The price of a litre of gas is reported at $1.499 in Terrace Bay. Honestly put, at these prices, the costs of many necessities are going to go up too. Fuel prices across the western parts of Ontario range from $1.389 in Dryden, to $1.399 at the Husky on Chipman Street in Kenora, In Thunder Bay, the lowest price in the city is $1.369 at the Real Canadian Superstore. Along Cumberland Street prices last night were as high as $1.449. Out on the Fort William First Nation, gas prices are at $1.249 at THP.
