THUNDER BAY, ON — With a 4-3 win under their belts against Sartell Sauk Rapids, the Thunder Bay Bantam AA Queens looked to keep their chances of playing for a championship alive in Eden Prairie, Minnesota at the 12th Annual “Prelude to the Playoffs”.
Saturday morning the Queens took on Burnsville. Queens Captain, Kendra Fortin got things rolling with a first-period goal set up by Alexis Paddington and Julia Buchan. Fortin would get her second of the game in the second period with Emma Johnston drawing the assist. And in the third, the Queens would keep their pace with one more goal when Reese Coffey would setup Olivia Nicholl for the 3-0 lead which was maintained by goalie Lindsay Humeniuk, earning a shutout in the process.
With only four of twelve teams making it into the semifinals, a win against Minnetonka in their evening match would ensure their spot.  Thunder Bay started strong scoring three unanswered goals; One by Fortin and two from Paddington. To their credit though, Minnetonka wouldn’t go away quietly capitalizing on a power play in the third period and then adding a second goal with just over two minutes left. The Queens bared down though as netminder Mykaila George ended the comeback attempt there.
With their perfect record, the Queens will face Osseo-Maple Grove tomorrow at 9:15 am.
