Extreme Cold Warning for Thunder Bay – Region January 4, 2018

A major winter storm is expect to hit southern Saskatchewan and Manitoba early Monday lasting until Tueday

THUNDER BAY – WEATHER – Back to the cold zone for Thunder Bay and region. Environment Canada says that extremely cold wind chill values at or below -40c are expected. The cold weather is expected Wednesday night, Thursday night and into the weekend. There is no break in the cold expected until at least Saturday morning.

Extreme Cold Warning in effect for:

  • City of Thunder Bay
  • Dryden – Ignace – English River
  • Geraldton – Manitowadge
  • Sioux Lookout – Savant Lake
  • Atikokan
  • Fort Frances

A period of very cold wind chills is expected.

Extreme wind chill values near or below minus 40 are expected overnight and Thursday morning, again Thursday night and Friday morning, and once again Friday night and Saturday morning.

Dress warmly. Dress in layers that you can remove if you get too warm. The outer layer should be wind resistant.

Keep dry to stay warmer.

Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especial the with wind chill.
