Highway 17 Closed at White River over Wildfire

SAULT STE MARIE – NEWS – A wildfire near White River Ontario has caused the Ontario Provincial Police to close Highway 17. The OPP White River detachment says that Highway 17 at White River is currently closed.

Pleased be advised, a State of Emergency has been declared as a precautionary measure in Greenstone. 

Emergency services are onsite responding to fires.  Natural Gas has been shut off to the Geraldton Area as a matter of precaution. Residents are advised not to attempt to re-lite the gas themselves. 

Currently traffic is stopped, as there are no detours currently available.

Additionally, workers at the Hemlo Gold Mine have been evacuated for public safety concerns.
