City Announces Resignation of Michael Smith

THUNDER BAY – CIVIC – The City of Thunder Bay has announced that Michael Smith has given notice that he is resigning as General Manager of Community Services.

“Mr. Smith has indicated he is accepting another position and is relocating to Southern Ontario,” City Manager Norm Gale said today. “I have received and accepted his resignation. He expressed his thanks to Council and staff and wished the City of Thunder Bay continued success in the future.”

Mr. Smith joined the City of Thunder Bay in 2011.

Gerry Broere will continue in the role of Acting General Manager for the Community Services Department. Prior to this acting appointment, Mr. Broere was Director of Asset Management in the Community Services Department.

“Community Services has a strong staff of experienced and dedicated professionals – the Department is in good hands during this transition,” said Mr. Gale.

The search for the new General Manager of Community Services will get underway shortly.

The Community Services Department includes Recreation & Culture, Asset Management, Transit Services, Central Support as well as Waterfront Coordination and Corporate Projects.
