Special Weather Statement for Sault Ste Marie – January 15 2016

THUNDER BAY – Driving conditions east of Thunder Bay are likely to offer challenges to drivers heading toward Sault Ste Marie.

Special weather statement in effect for:

  • Agawa – Lake Superior Park
  • Sault Ste. Marie – St. Joseph Island
  • Searchmont – Montreal River Harbour – Batchawana Bay

Significant snowfall on the way.

An Alberta Clipper is expected to pass by over Lake Huron and Georgian Bay later Friday night then into the Ottawa Valley area or Southwestern Quebec Friday night, bringing a large area of snow with it.

Latest indications suggest a total of 10 to 20 cm of snow across much of the area Friday and Friday night. The snow may become mixed with ice pellets or freezing rain near Northern Lake Huron and Georgian Bay.

Driving conditions are expected to quickly deteriorate Friday once the snow arrives.
