THUNDER BAY – SPORTS – The Lakehead University Thunderwolves’  track team will open their competitive season this Saturday morning in the annual LU vs The World track meet, hosted in the Hangar facility.

Along with the Thunderwolves’ track team, Lakehead Running Club’s high school and elementary school groups will be competing. Lakehead track coach Kip Sigsworth has also secured the attendance of several recruits this weekend who will test themselves against the field at the Hangar.
“I am excited to start the year and see where we are at after the break,” says Sigsworth. “This is a good opportunity for athletes to ease back into competition mode in a low-stress meet.”
The men’s and women’s 3000m and 1000m promise to be the day’s highlight events. The 3km will feature most of Lakehead’s athletes who ran for the cross country team in the fall season. In the men’s 1km Joe McDonough will look to start his indoor season off on the right foot and the women’s 1k will see the return of 2014 CIS qualifier Heather Maxfield, who missed last season due to injury.
