Police Lay Second Degree Murder Charges in Fort Severn

Canada's First Homicide of 2014 happened in Saskatoon SaskatchewanFORT SEVERN FN – Nishnawbe-Aski Police and the Ontario Provincial Police are investigating a homicide in the community of Fort Severn / Washaho Cree Nation.

Police responded to a report of a stabbing on Tuesday, December 8th 2015 at about 20:45 EST. Upon arriving at the scene, NAPS officers found an injured man at his home and transported him to the Fort Severn Nursing Station where he expired.

Ontario Provincial Police have identified the deceased as forty-five-year-old George Thomas a resident of Fort Severn.

A thirty-five-year-old woman, also from Fort Severn has been taken into custody, and is facing a charge of second degree murder. She has been remanded into custody pending a  bail hearing.

The OPP said a post mortem examination will be conducted at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre and that more information will be released, as it becomes available.

NAPS and the OPP flew extra officers into the community of Fort Severn which is located 900 kilometres north of Thunder Bay along the James Bay coast.
