THUNDER BAY – SPORTS – Coach Manny Furtado of the men’s basketball team has been successful in landing another recruit from Kelowna, B.C.’s Mt Boucherie HS. Kache Kopec, of Kelowna, B.C., will be a Thunderwolf next season, joining his high school teammate, Quincy Johnson.

Says Coach Furtado, “We are very pleased that Kache will be a member of the Thunderwolves family next year. Kache’s length, athleticism and perimeter shooting will help us meet our teams’ needs for next year and beyond. We were very impressed with him during his campus visit and look forward to helping his game mature over the next 5 years.”

“I’m really looking forward to playing with the Thunderwolves in the fall,” says Kopec, a 6’3″ guard. “The competition at Lakehead and the schools on their schedule are of the highest calibre.”

Kopec’s high school resume features some impressive numbers, including a 50-point game, and averages of 21 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals per game. He was also named the MVP of the Okanagan HS All-Star game.

Kache adds, “The Lakehead community is very close, and it seems like a very supportive atmosphere and a great place to play. I’m excited for the challenges I’ll face next year. I think it will be a great experience for me, both academically and on the court.”

Kelly Broderick, Kopec’s high school coach remarks, “It is with great pleasure to know that Kache is joining the Thunderwolves at Lakehead. Kache is a player that has dedicated the last three years of his life to becoming the best, both on and off the court. His dedication, drive and grit have earned him this great opportunity. Kache will join fellow Mt Boucherie senior Quincy Johnson on the T-Wolves’ roster.”
