NAPS Nishnawbe Police ServiceFORT HOPE – On February 23, 2015 at approximately 2AM officers with the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service responded to a report of an altercation between two males on the Fort Hope First Nation. One male was transported to the local nursing station to receive medical attention and was pronounced deceased.

The 52-year-old male has been positively identified as Donald Sugarhead from Fort Hope First Nation. A post mortem examination took place in Toronto on February 25, 2015 but the results are not being released at this time.

On February 23, 2015, 48 year-old Norman Yellowhead from Fort Hope First Nation was arrested in relation to this investigation and has been charged with Manslaughter contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is currently in custody and will appear in Thunder Bay Criminal Court on February 27, 2015.

The Nishnawbe Aski Police Service with the assistance of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) North West Region Crime Unit under the direction of Acting Detective Inspector Gilles Depratto of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
