CurlingTHUNDER BAY – SPORT – The Fort William Curling Club is pleased to be named as the host for the inaugural Tbaytel Northern Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts scheduled for January 14 to 18, 2015. Prior to this year, teams from Northern Ontario competed with teams from all of Ontario. The winner of this Provincial Championship will participate in the Relegation Tournament where two teams will advance to compete in the Scotties Tournament of Hearts from February 14 to 22, 2015 in Moose Jaw, SK.

Five teams from across Northern Ontario will take to the ice for their first game on Thursday, January 15 at 10:00 a.m. The draw is a single round robin followed by a play-off of the top two teams.

The pre-event favourite is Team Horgan from Sudbury who are currently ranked #9 on the Canadian Team Ranking System. Team Horgan previously participated in the Scotties Tournament of Hearts in 2012 posting a 4-7 record. They boast 2014 earnings of $21,600 arising from two major bonspiel victories this season.

A trio of Thunder Bay based teams will challenge Horgan. Teams Lilly, Williams and Fossum all participate in the Tbaytel Major League of Curling and all have travelled to the USA in recent weeks to prepare for this first ever Northern Ontario Provincial Championship. Rounding out the field will be Team Payne from North Bay.

Spectators are welcome to enjoy this intense competition. Weekend passes are now available at FWCC for a $15 fee. A limited number of $50 full event Championship Packages are also available that include reserved front row seating and parking.
