THUNDER BAY – GRK Fasteners has been a Thunder Bay success story for a long time. The company manufactures top quality screws and fasteners and sells them all over North America.

Now the company has announced that it is closing up shop in Thunder Bay and headed to Chicago.

The company’s roots in Thunder Bay started when Uli Walther and his family came to the city from Germany and started GRK’s Canadian production in 1990.

The company to ITW Construction Canada in 2011.

The move has Thunder Bay Mayor Keith Hobbs expressing concern. “International companies don’t have roots in our community”, stated Hobbs. The City of Thunder Bay has been having some difficulties with CN Rail over the James Street Bridge since a fire closed the bridge last October.

The move by GRK puts the economic future of the forty workers and their families in doubt.
