Camp Quality Sets Up for 2014

Thunder Bay, ON – Today, Camp Quality Northwestern Ontario revealed its new look at Sportop @ Work’s Charity BBQ in support of the organization. “We are thrilled to be sharing this moment with our campers, volunteers and community supporters,” said Ashleigh Quarrell, Director, Camp Quality Northwestern Ontario.

“This moment helps us to celebrate 13 years of providing children with cancer and their siblings with the freedom to explore new activities, make friends and gain memories that will last a lifetime. When our campers are at camp, they are no longer defined by their cancer. We instead, inspire them to do anything, be anything and achieve everything.”

Established in 2001, Camp Quality Northwestern Ontario is a non-profit, volunteer organization that provides a free week-long camp and year-round support program for children with cancer and their siblings. Receiving no government funding, Camp Quality relies on donations from individuals and organizations as well as money received through fundraising efforts.

“Camp Quality is like a second family to me,” said 14-year old camper, Braeden Fediuk, who will be enjoying his 12th camp experience this summer. “My first companion is still one of my best friends and I stay close with all of my camp friends throughout the year. Camp Quality lets me just be a kid and have fun.”

Fediuk was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia at the age of two and celebrates nine years cancer-free this year.

Clara Butikofer, President of the Camp Quality Canada Board of Directors, also joined in the launch celebration today. “Our new logo shows the connection of how the camper-companion relationship is akin to the soaring of eagles. It acts as a window into the empowerment we provide to our campers and the joy the camp experience brings to both campers and volunteers alike.”

Camp Quality is unique in that each camper is paired one-to-one with a volunteer companion who is responsible for the camper’s safety and for making sure the camper has a whole lot of fun. In addition to characterizing this relationship, the new logo ties in the camp’s connection to the outdoors.

Camp Quality will be kicking off its 13th camp starting July 12 at Loon Lake. To learn more, visit campquality.com.
