KASHECHEWAN – Ruth Ann Onley, wife of Ontario Lieutenant Governor David Onley, was appointed an honorary Canadian Ranger at a farewell tribute for them in Toronto.

Mrs. Onley visited two dozen First Nations across the Far North of Ontario during Mr. Onley’s seven years in office, which comes to a close this summer.

She was presented with a Ranger sweat shirt with her name on it by, from left, Master Corporal Peter Echum and Corporal Peter Whiskeychan, both of Moose Factory, and Ranger Brandon Nakogee. of Kashechewan.

Sergeant Peter Moon is the public affairs ranger for the 3rd Canadian Ranger Patrol Group. Canadian Rangers are army reservists who provide a military presence in Canada's remote and isolated regions, including Northern Ontario. They provide skilled assistance in emergencies such as searches, plane crashes, forest fires, and floods. They also operate the Junior Canadian Rangers, a youth programme for boys and girls aged 12 to 18.
