PGA TOUR Canada Announces Charity Partners

THUNDER BAY – SPORTS – The organizing committee of the Staal Foundation Open presented by Tbaytel has named the official charity partners for the inaugural PGA TOUR Canada event scheduled for July 14th-20th at Whitewater Golf Club in Thunder Bay.

The United Way of Thunder Bay, Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation (HSF) and St. Joseph’s Foundation of Thunder Bay have all been selected as official beneficiaries of the 2014 edition of the Staal Foundation Open presented by Tbaytel.

The announcement was made during a media conference at the Valhalla Inn in Thunder Bay, the official hotel of the Staal Foundation Open presented by Tbaytel. In attendance were Michael Nitz, 2014 Campaign Chair for the United Way of Thunder Bay; Glenn Craig, President and CEO of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation; Tracy Buckler, President and CEO of St. Joseph’s Care Group; Daryle Martin, Vice-Chair, Board, St. Joseph’s Foundation of Thunder Bay; and Staal Foundation Open presented by Tbaytel Executive Director Scott Smith; as well as representatives of all three charities and a number of local dignitaries.

“The United Way of Thunder Bay is very excited to partner with the Staal Foundation and the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre Foundation for the upcoming Staal Foundation Open presented by Tbaytel, an official PGA TOUR Canada event,” said Michael Nitz. “Directing ticket sale proceeds of this world class event to The United Way of Thunder Bay and HSF shows the commitment these partners have to enriching local communities. We are proud to be part of such a significant Canadian event and appreciate all the hard work of the volunteers to bring this PGA TOUR Canada event to Thunder Bay. “

As with all PGA TOUR Canada events the net proceeds raised from the Staal Foundation Open presented by Tbaytel will be directed to charity. The United Way and HSF will receive the net proceeds from ticket sales while St Joseph’s Foundation of Thunder Bay will be the recipient of parking revenues.

The event’s organizing committee used the platform to also announce the launch of the official Staal Foundation Open presented by Tbaytel website. Designed by Generator Strategy Advertising and developed by Sencia Canada Ltd., both locally-owned companies, the website features ticket purchasing, volunteer sign up forms, and detailed information relating to the tournament. Tickets for the event are now available for purchase online at staalopen.ca. or through the official charities, the United Way of Thunder Bay and TBRHSF.

PGA TOUR Canada’s season gets underway with 12 events starting with the PC Financial Open in Vancouver and culminating with the TOUR Championship of Canada presented by Freedom 55 Financial in September where the top five players on the Order of Merit will earn their Web.com Tour status for the following season.

The Staal Foundation Open presented by Tbaytel is the sixth tournament on the 2014 PGA TOUR Canada schedule. As an added bonus the top three players on PGA TOUR Canada’s Order of Merit following the Staal Foundation Open presented by Tbaytel will earn exemptions into the RBC Canadian Open set to be played at Royal Montreal in Ile Bizard, Quebec.
