THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay residents are being advised to change their PIN numbers and keep aware of their debit card and credit card statements. The Thunder Bay Police report they have received a number of reports over the weekend of fraudulent transactions occurring in local bank accounts.

Police state, “It would appear that funds have been withdrawn from ATM locations in the United States”.

Many people have also been contacted by their financial institution and advised that their debit card may have been compromised. As a precaution the affected cards have been frozen and customers have been instructed to attend the bank to get a new debit card issued.

Anyone affected by this fraudulent activity is to contact their financial institution and then make a report to police. This investigation is ongoing and it is unknown at this time where the point of compromise is.

The police strongly recommend that people always pay close attention to transaction listed in monthly debit card or credit card statements. Any irregularities should be reported to your financial institution right away. It is also recommended to change your PIN numbers on a regular basis.
