TERRACE BAY – Come celebrate the largest of the Great Lakes with Parks Canada’s Lake Superior National Marine Conservation Area – the largest freshwater marine protected area in the world!
Parks Canada will be hosting family activities as part of Lake Superior Day celebrations taking place at Terrace Bay Beach on Sunday, July 21 from 11AMEDT to 3PMEDT Activities will include sea kayak tours and boat charters. Don’t miss your chance to meet and take a photo with Parka, Parks Canada’s friendly mascot!
There will be an information booth where you can learn more about Lake Superior National Marine Conservation Area and Parks Canada sites in northern Ontario. Parks Canada will also be offering free children’s activities at the Lake Superior Day event at Marina Park in Thunder Bay.
Lake Superior Day takes place on the third Sunday in July and is a time for people all around the lake to take part in activities that celebrate the natural, historical, cultural and economic importance of the lake, and to highlight the importance of conserving and protecting the marine area.
Parks Canada manages national marine conservation areas to ensure their ecological sustainability and to provide opportunities for appreciation and enjoyment of our marine heritage. Lake Superior National Marine Conservation Area, at more than 10,000 square kilometres, is the largest freshwater marine protected area in the world. Its boundaries extend from Thunder Cape at the tip of the Sleeping Giant Provincial Park in the west, to Bottle Point just east of Terrace Bay, and south to the Canada-U.S.boundary.
