ThunderwolvesWATERLOO, ON – The Lakehead University Thunderwolves women’s basketball team earned at 73-64 win over the Waterloo Warriors on Friday evening. With the win they improve to .500 on the season with a 4-4 record. Coach Jon Kreiner stated, “We were flat offensively in the first half and second & third quarters our defense was not great at all. I thought Waterloo played a great game tonight. They took Fragale out in the first half and contained Kalkan. Laura Bossers played a great game and Erika Persson was tough.  Jessica de Haan kept us in the game with her inside play and rebounding while Katie Ulakovic sparked us in the second half with back-to-back threes. Tomorrow we need to take care of the ball, rebound the ball and improve our offensive movement.”

After leading 16-12 after the first quarter, Lakehead got a wake up call in the second Q, as the Warriors came storming back to lead 34-29 at halftime. After playing a fairly even third, the T-Wolves would put the game away in the fourth quarter, outscoring Waterloo 23-11.

Top scorer for Lakehead was Carolyn Fragale with 18, while Jessica deHaan had a great game with 16 points on 6-9 shooting with 7 rebounds. Katie Ulakovic had 14 points (3-5 from three) while Kelsey Bardsley had 9 points and 2 steals.

Top Warrior was Laura Bossers with 18 points and 6 rebounds. Erika Persson scored 13 points with 11 rebounds.

The teams will rematch tomorrow at 6pm ET. Webcast will be available via SSN Canada.
