Thunder Bay Business Digest – Chamber of Commerce Lunch

Thunder Bay chamber of commerceThe Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce is pleased to be hosting a luncheon with Michael Gravelle, Minister of Provincial Parliament and Minister for the Northern Development and Mines, to address the business community this week. 

Minister Gravelle will speak on how Northern Ontario is positioned to become a sustainable, stable, and innovative region and a significant contributor to the overall growth of the Ontario economy.  Guided by the Growth Plan for Northern Ontario and supported by an earnest dialogue with its broad community of partners – municipalities, First Nations and Metis groups, public and private sector organizations, other stakeholders and individuals – Minister Gravelle will share his vision for a prosperous North and a strong provincial minerals sector. 

The event will take place Friday, March 8, 2013 at the Victoria Inn (Regency).  Registration will begin at 11:30, with lunch at 12:00pm followed with Michael Gravelle’s presentation starting at 12:20.

Fort William First Nation Mining Conference

The Fort William First Nation are hosting their first Mining Conference “Plan for The Future” on Monday and Tuesday, March 25th and 26th at the Fort William First Nation Community Centre, 90 Anemki Road, Thunder Bay, ON.

The theme of the conference is “Building Training, Employment and Development Opportunities For The Future”.

The presentations and exhibits will focus on informing the attendees of job requirements and job opportunities for employment within the mining sector.

There is currently a lack of skilled labour and resources that the mining industry will require over the next few years.

This conference will unite band members, students and the general public with mining industry leaders, training organizations, and mining related companies.

Topics will revolve around the status of mining in Northwestern Ontario, academic requirements for various careers and trades, careers for women in mining, aboriginal mining involvement and resources available for employers and prospective employees.

United Way Golf at Valhalla

The 3rd Annual Valhalla Inn-Door Golf Open is a go April 5th! YES April 5th! 36 teams playing 18 custom built mini-putt holes inside the Valhalla over 15,000 square feet, all in support of the United Way. 

Other than a great cause, this event is one of a kind, and amazingly fun to play in. Dress up, have a drink, play a round of golf and have a great dinner and auction too – all under one roof! 

We are asking that you consider putt-ing in a team this year and help spread the word! 

It’s only $300 per team of 4, and that includes a Valhalla dinner! There are still a few spots for your company to build a custom made hole too!

Lakehead University Native Students Association Pow Wow

LUNSA Pow WowThe Lakehead University Native Student Association (LUNSA) is hosting its annual powwow at the C.J. Sanders Fieldhouse from Friday, March 15 to Sunday, March 17, 2013. This year’s theme is Celebrating 25 Years of Powwow at Lakehead University.

This powwow showcases local talent and entertainment, free of charge, while reinforcing traditional aspects of Aboriginal culture such as drumming, dancing, singing, and giving thanks.

Everyone is welcome to attend.
