Thunder Bay MarathonSleeping GiantTHUNDER BAY – The Board of Directors of the Thunder Bay Marathon – Miles with the Giant are pleased to announce the course details for the marathon, half-marathon and the newly added 10K races on September 18, 2011. The race loop will start and finish in the 200 block of Red River Road heading northeast towards Centennial Park. “The new 10K race is an added feature for our runners this year,” said President and Chair, Barry Streib. “With the 5K Terry Fox Run later in the afternoon, Sunday, September 18, 2011 has a little bit for everyone. We are encouraging runners, walkers and wheelers to take part in both the Thunder Bay Marathon – Miles with the Giant and the Terry Fox Run/Walk.” The course travels around Boulevard Lake and along Water Street, Court Street and Park Avenue and features 8 fluid stations and numerous entertainment stations throughout the scenic 13.1 mile loop.

Miles with the Giant participants are encouraged to register before the early bird rates expire on August 20th. Registration costs start at $90 for the marathon, $70 for the half-marathon, and $40 for the 10K. Volunteers are still needed to help make the Thunder Bay Marathon-Miles with the Giant a huge success. “We encourage those who want to get involved to sign up online for our volunteer opportunities. High school students will be able to claim their time towards high school credit requirements”, added Strieb.

Don Morrison chairs the Terry Fox Run for the Lakehead Rotary Club and he says this year’s event will be extra special, “Betty Fox has been a true champion for cancer research and we will be honouring her memory as well as Terry’s at this year’s 5K Run/Walk at Boulevard Lake.”

Terry Fox Run/Walk participants can register in person on September 18th starting at 1pm at St. Ignatius High School. The run/walk will begin at 2pm.
