Lakehead ThunderwolvesHAMILTON – The Lakehead University Thunderwolves women’s volleyball team came up short on Saturday evening, losing 3-1 to the McMaster Marauders (18-25, 25-18, 16-25, 19-25).

In their second game in as many days, the T-Wolves could not muster enough to get past the Marauders, although they did improve on their performance from the night prior.
Brittany Macleod continued to serve great, registering 6 aces with 9 kills and 2 blocks for a total 17 points. Jorie Daymond rebounded well from yesterday’s game to lead all scorers with 19 points (16 kills, 2 blocks and 1 ace).
Lakehead setter Sara Hudson also played much better this evening, making 32 assists to go with 13 digs. Libero Breanne Hilhorst, the defensive anchor for the ‘Wolves, made an impressive 25 digs in the game.
Top McMaster scorer was Taylor Brisebois with 14 (11 kills, 2 blocks and 1 ace).
The Marauders, a team that started the season 1-3 are certainly one that finding their rhythm, according to Lakehead coach Chris Green.
“First off I will say I am proud of the overall responses tonight,” commented Coach Green. “The girls came out and decided to play in an aggressive and enjoyable manor. We made more changes to the lineup to find our right combination of offence. Now Mac is a team in my opinion that is finding their stride and all OUA teams will need to watch out for. They have all the tools to succeed, big time.”
Green continues, “Our girls made crucial mistakes at tough times and the funny thing is our experienced players who should be better made unusual mistakes. When they all put it together we will be in good shape. I am super impressed with Sara Hudson who the last few games in my opinion has struggled a bit with her game. She’s working hard through injury and that can be taxing. Tonight we saw her play the game the way she is fully capable of and that is always exciting.  Kudos is to her.”
Green added, “Stephanie Chartrand grew up as a player tonight. She started shy and slow but ended big and strong. We will get back in the gym and get to work on the techniques I need people to follow and stop doing their own thing. This week they will get back to it.”
The women’s team host Queen’s and RMC next weekend in the Thunderdome in a pair of evening games.
