THUNDER BAY – WEATHER DESK – Kenora and the Lake of the Woods region are starting Tuesday with a raw early-spring feel, but the forecast is leaning warmer by midweek.

The latest forecast for the Kenora area calls for a mix of flurries, drizzle, and rain showers today, then a jump to 12°C on Wednesday with a late-day thunderstorm risk.

Today’s Weather Overview

Current Conditions

As of 5:00 AM CDT Tuesday, April 14, conditions at Kenora Airport were mostly cloudy with a temperature of -1.2°C. Pressure was 101.2 kPa and falling, humidity sat at 85 percent, and a northeast wind at 11 km/h was producing a wind chill of -5. Visibility was a good 32 km, but it still felt like a cold, unsettled start to the day.

Environment Canada says today will stay cloudy, with rain showers or flurries beginning early this morning and ending this afternoon, followed by a 60 percent chance of drizzle or rain showers later this afternoon.

There is also a risk of freezing drizzle early this morning, with fog patches dissipating this morning. The high is forecast to reach 7°C, with a morning wind chill near -6 and a UV index of 2, or low.

Extended Weather Forecast

Expected Conditions

Tonight remains unsettled, with cloudy skies and a 40 percent chance of drizzle. Environment Canada also warns of a risk of freezing drizzle overnight and says fog patches will develop this evening. The overnight low will hold near 0°C.

Wednesday, April 15 looks like the big transition day. The forecast calls for a mix of sun and cloud, a 40 percent chance of drizzle early in the morning, and a 30 percent chance of rain showers late in the afternoon. There is also a risk of freezing drizzle early in the morning and a risk of thunderstorms late in the afternoon. Winds are expected to become south 20 km/h in the afternoon, and the high is forecast to reach 12°C.

By Wednesday night, skies turn cloudier again with a low of 1°C. Thursday stays cloudy with a high of 10°C, while Thursday night brings a 60 percent chance of showers and a low of -4°C. Friday stays cooler, with cloudy skies and a 60 percent chance of showers and a high of 4°C.

Wardrobe Recommendations

This morning still calls for a proper jacket and footwear with some grip, especially with temperatures below freezing and the risk of early freezing drizzle. By Wednesday afternoon, lighter layers should work much better, but it would still be wise to keep rain gear handy because of the late-day shower and thunderstorm risk. This is an inference based on the official temperature and precipitation forecast.

Weather Trivia

This is a classic northwestern Ontario shoulder-season setup. Kenora can go from a sub-zero morning with flurries or freezing drizzle to double-digit warmth and even thunderstorm risk within about 24 hours when milder air surges in over a lingering cool surface layer. This is an inference based on the current forecast pattern.

Overview

Kenora and Lake of the Woods weather for April 14, 2026: cloudy and chilly today with flurries, drizzle, and a freezing drizzle risk, then much milder Wednesday with highs near 12°C.
