Snowfall and travel conditions

Thunder Bay – Thunder Bay has received approximately 15–20 cm of snow so far. A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect, with an additional 10–20 cm forecast by Friday. Strong winds are causing significant drifting in many areas, creating difficult travel conditions in some locations.

Thunder Bay Transit is likely to be impacted through the day.

Priority routes: first pass complete

City road crews began clearing priority routes—including arterial roads, collector roads, and transit corridors—at 2:00 a.m. The initial pass is now complete. With snowfall continuing, crews will keep monitoring conditions and return for additional plowing as required.

Residential streets: plowing begins after 9:00 a.m.

Plowing on residential streets will begin after 9:00 a.m. today, once priority routes are finished.

Sidewalks and trails

Sidewalk clearing on arterial, collector, and core-area streets started at 3:00 a.m. and is expected to be completed by end of day. These areas will continue to be monitored as snow continues. Residential sidewalks and trails will be addressed once priority areas are complete.

Sanding and salting

Sanding and salting operations began yesterday at noon and continued throughout the day and overnight. Residential streets will be sanded once all priority routes are completed.
