Thunder Bay Transit: Delays and Temporary Interruptions Possible
THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay Transit riders should expect delays or short-term service interruptions as road conditions change across the city.
The City notes riders can stay informed through:
-
Transit app for real-time status and route notifications
-
Nextlift for real-time bus arrivals and disruption notices
For safety at stops and on board, the City also advises using handrails and watching footing, as platforms and bus entrances can be slippery during storms.
Roads, Snowplows, and Parking Reminders
City officials are urging motorists to drive with extra caution as crews work to keep streets open, and remind residents to follow calendar parking restrictions to support snow-clearing in neighbourhoods.
The City’s snow operations typically prioritize major and transit routes first, with plows deploying after about 5 cm of snowfall and beginning priority-route work overnight to keep emergency and transit corridors moving.
Travel Safely: Plan Extra Time
Environment Canada warns visibility can drop suddenly in blowing snow and that road closures are possible. If you must travel, slow down, leave extra following distance, and give plows plenty of room to operate.
Wider Northwest Ontario Context
The same storm setup is affecting parts of the region beyond city limits, with nearby areas also under winter storm alerts—another reminder that conditions can change quickly on highways outside Thunder Bay.
