Attawapiskat Woman Charged After Alleged Knife Assault and Threats on Spruce Street

Attawapiskat Crime report

ATTAWAPISKAT FIRST NATION — February 9, 2026 — Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) say a woman has been arrested and charged following an investigation into an alleged assault involving a knife at a home on Spruce Street.

Police report they received a call for service during the morning hours of Sunday, February 8, after reports of a person with a knife threatening people at the residence. When officers arrived, they located a female suspect outside the home.

Following further investigation, NAPS allege the accused swung an edged weapon at an adult female victim and had to be restrained by bystanders to help prevent further violence. Police also report additional allegations that the accused made threats toward the victim and was involved in a prior incident early Saturday, February 7, where she allegedly swung and nearly struck the same victim with a knife.

The accused was taken into custody without incident.

Charges

NAPS say Shania KOOSTACHIN, 30, of Attawapiskat First Nation, is charged with:

  • Assault with a Weapon (x2)

  • Uttering Threats — Cause Death or Bodily Harm

Koostachin appeared in bail court on Monday, February 9, and was remanded into custody with a future court appearance date.

The allegations have not been proven in court.
