OPP Say Passing Attempt Struck Plow Wing in Clearwater Bay Area
KENORA — Kenora Ontario Provincial Police responded to a collision involving a snow plow and a semi-truck Sunday night in the Clearwater Bay area.
OPP say the crash happened at about 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 11, 2026, on Highway 17, while a snow plow was actively clearing the highway.
Police allege the semi-truck attempted to pass the plow and struck the plow’s wing, rendering the equipment inoperable and resulting in a collision.
A 56-year-old semi-truck driver has been charged with Careless Driving under the Highway Traffic Act, police said.
OPP Reminder: Give Plows Space
Kenora OPP are reminding motorists that snow plow operators work long hours in hazardous winter conditions and that attempting to pass an operating plow can be extremely dangerous, particularly during reduced visibility and slippery road conditions. Police also note that passing a working snow plow is prohibited under the Highway Traffic Act.
Drivers are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and use extra caution in winter weather to allow plow operators the room they need to keep highways safe.
