IGNACE, ON – A fatal incident on Highway 599, north of Ignace, is under active investigation by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Dryden Detachment, and authorities are appealing to the public for information.
Emergency services were called to the scene shortly before 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, after motorists reported a person lying in the northbound lane of the highway. A 48-year-old male from Ignace was located and pronounced deceased at the scene.
In response, Highway 599 was closed in both directions between Highway 17 and Highway 642 for several hours to allow for a full investigation. The closure has since been lifted.
The OPP North West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) Team and members of the OPP Dryden Crime Unit are assisting with the investigation.
Authorities are now appealing to the public for assistance. If you were travelling on Highway 599 between 10:00 p.m. on August 5 and 6:00 a.m. on August 6, or if you have dash camera footage from that timeframe, you are urged to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
