Woof! It’s Too Hot Out Here
Hey there, Thunder Bay! I’m Behzhig, and I’m just 15 months old—but I already know one thing for sure: when the weather gets hot, it’s no joke for us pets.
Today, there’s a heat warning in effect, and I’m barking up a storm to make sure all my four-legged friends stay safe (and cool!).
The Pavement Test (Yes, It’s Real!)
Ever try walking barefoot on sizzling pavement? Neither do I—and you shouldn’t make me! If you can’t hold your paw (I mean hand) on the pavement for 5 seconds, then it’s too hot for me to walk.
Burns on paws are real, and trust me, licking them doesn’t help.
Hydration = Happy Tail Wags
Water isn’t just a nice thing—it’s life. Make sure your pet has fresh, clean water all day. Bonus points for adding ice cubes—I like to chase them around my bowl.
And for cats? They like moving water, so maybe toss a fountain their way.
Never Ever Leave Us in Hot Cars
This one’s serious. Even for a “quick” trip, a car can turn into an oven. In just 10 minutes, it can feel like 50°C in there.
We pant, we overheat, and some of us don’t make it. It’s not worth the risk. If we can’t come in, leave us home where it’s cool.
Cool Tips From a Thunder Bay Pup
-
Walk us early in the morning or after the sun goes down.
-
Keep us indoors during the heat of the day.
-
Give us a fan or a cool mat to lie on (I love the bathroom tiles!)
-
Brush us regularly—extra fur = extra heat.
-
Wet a towel and let us lie on it (instant spa day).
When in Doubt, Stay In and Chill
Thunder Bay might not get heat waves every day, but when we do, remember—if you’re feeling hot, I am too.
I might not be able to say it with words, but I sure can pant, pace, and give you that “help me” look.
So from one good boy to all the humans out there: help us beat the heat. Because a safe pet is a happy pet—and a happy pet means more tail wags, head butts, and purrs all around.
Woofs and wiggles,
Behzhig 🐾
