Daniel Dumas charged after dramatic arrest involving foot chase and taser deployment

Winnipeg Police have arrested a 33-year-old man in connection to a violent, random assault that occurred at The Forks on June 6, as well as a robbery and residential break-in that followed the next day.

At approximately 4:20 a.m. on July 6, 2025, officers from the North District located the suspect at an apartment building in the 600 block of Jefferson Avenue. In an effort to evade arrest, the suspect jumped from a third-floor window and attempted to flee on foot. After a brief pursuit and continued resistance, officers deployed a taser to safely take the suspect into custody.

Suspect Linked to Multiple Crimes

Police confirm the suspect was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for being unlawfully at large, and was also connected to two other incidents that occurred on June 7, 2025 — a robbery and a break-and-enter during the early morning hours.

The accused, Daniel Christopher DUMAS, 33, now faces the following charges:

  • Robbery (x2)

  • Break and Enter

  • Theft Under $5,000

  • Resisting Arrest

  • Being Unlawfully at Large

He remains in custody pending further legal proceedings.

Details of The Forks Assault – June 6, 2025

As previously reported, a 30-year-old man was randomly attacked near The Forks Market at approximately 11:15 p.m. on June 6. Witnesses say the victim was knocked unconscious and continued to be assaulted while on the ground. He was transported to hospital in stable condition.

The suspect allegedly stole an item from the victim, which he later threw at a woman walking her dog near the Riverwalk. Investigators believe this woman may have witnessed part of the incident and are asking her, or anyone with information, to contact police.

The suspect was previously described as Indigenous, 25–35 years old, with a medium to heavy build, wearing a black t-shirt, black pants, a New York Yankees black cap, and black shoes at the time of the assault.

Ongoing Investigation

Police are continuing to investigate the series of events connected to this suspect. Community members with any tips or dashcam footage from the area near Bonnycastle Park or Assiniboine Avenue around the time of the incidents are encouraged to come forward.
