Motorcyclist charged with stunt driving after OPP clocked speed of 152 km/h on Highway 11-17
NIPIGON, ON – June 7, 2025 – A regional motorcycle safety initiative conducted by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has led to the impoundment of a motorcycle and the suspension of a driver’s licence after officers clocked a motorcyclist travelling at nearly double the posted speed limit.
Members of the Nipigon and Schreiber Detachments, supported by the Traffic Incident Management Enforcement (T.I.M.E.) Unit and the Emergency Response Team (E.R.T.), conducted targeted enforcement along Highway 11-17 between Nipigon and Schreiber. The focus of the June 7 campaign was to ensure motorcycle safety, with officers monitoring speed, safety gear compliance, and road behaviour.
While the majority of riders adhered to safety regulations and respected speed limits, the operation concluded with a serious infraction involving a motorcyclist travelling at 152 km/h in a posted 90 km/h zone.
As a result of the incident, Yves DESCHAMBAULT, 54, of New Brunswick, was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with:
-
Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt – Excessive Speed
The penalty includes:
-
30-day driver’s licence suspension
-
14-day motorcycle impoundment
The OPP continues to emphasize its commitment to road safety for all users of Ontario highways. High speeds and stunt driving not only endanger the life of the rider but also pose serious risks to other road users.
Police are urging the public to report incidents of impaired, aggressive, or dangerous driving by calling 911 in emergencies. Non-emergency traffic complaints can also be reported to the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
