Shelter-in-place lifted; homicide investigation continues with increased police presence

GINOOGAMING FIRST NATION – REGIONAL CRIME REPORT – Two males are in police custody following a two-day search for suspects considered armed and dangerous in connection with a homicide investigation in Ginoogaming First Nation.

Timeline of Events

  • Wednesday, October 8, 2025 – 2:15 a.m.: Officers from the OPP Greenstone Detachment and the Anishinabek Police Service responded to reports of shots fired in the area of Echum Drive.

  • Police located one person deceased and another with injuries.

Advisory Status

The previously issued shelter-in-place advisory and emergency alert have been lifted. Residents may resume normal activities but are asked to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity.

Ongoing Police Presence

An increased police presence will remain in the community as the investigation continues under the direction of specialized units.
