Sunday, June 29 – A Cloudy Start to the Celebrations

As Thunder Bay gears up for Canada Day, the weather is already keeping us on our toes. This morning, the temperature is a mild 13.8°C with mostly cloudy skies hanging over the city. Humidity is a high 95%, and a gentle northeast breeze at 4 km/h keeps the air just shy of muggy. The barometric pressure is at 101.2 kPa and rising, suggesting a shift in conditions is brewing.

Fog patches from early morning are clearing up, and the day ahead will stay mainly cloudy with a 40% chance of showers and the risk of a thunderstorm by this afternoon. Temperatures will rise to a comfortable high of 22°C, but with the humidex reaching 27, it’ll feel warmer than it looks. The UV index climbs to 8, so don’t let the clouds trick you into skipping the sunscreen.

Tonight, the chance of showers and thunderstorms lingers through the evening, with skies gradually partly clearing. Expect a mild low of 12°C, ideal for a cool evening walk — if the thunder holds off.

Monday, June 30 – A Mixed Forecast with Stormy Potential

The eve of Canada Day brings more mixed skies with a 60% chance of showers and risk of thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoon. Winds will shift throughout the day — from south 20 km/h in the morning to east 20 km/h by the afternoon — bringing in warmer, moisture-laden air.

Temperatures will rise to 25°C, but feel closer to 30°C with the humidex. So while the clouds may dominate, it’ll feel like a genuine summer day. UV levels stay strong at 7, so SPF is still your best friend.

Monday night remains cloudy with a 30% chance of showers, and a low of 15°C. Not bad at all for evening fireworks or last-minute Canada Day BBQ prep.

Tuesday, July 1 – A Classic Canadian Mix

Canada Day itself in Thunder Bay is shaping up to be a mix of sun and cloud with a 30% chance of showers. Not a washout by any means, and certainly good enough to get out and enjoy the festivities. Temperatures will hover at a pleasant 25°C, ideal for family outings, outdoor concerts, or grabbing a red-and-white ice cream cone.

By night, skies clear, and we dip down to a cool 12°C, making for excellent sleeping weather after a full day of celebration.

Wardrobe Tips

Layer up in the morning, bring breathable clothes for the afternoon, and don’t forget your rain jacket or umbrella, especially Sunday and Monday. Whether you’re heading to Marina Park, out on the water, or hiking near Kakabeka Falls, the weather promises a little of everything — truly Canadian, right?
