ONIWG – Injured Workers Losing Benefits When They Hit 65

While the province celebrates June as Senior’s Month, Injured Workers know all too well that those past the age of 65 face an increased risk of poverty.

Section 43(1)(c) of the WSIA allows the WSIB to end Loss of Earnings (LOE) benefits when an injured worker reaches 65 years of age, or two years after the injury if the injury occurs after age 63. This means that older workers face a strict and early cut-off from income support and a lack of access to crucial supports, regardless of their actual ability or intention to retire.

Injured Workers and their supporters are calling for the removal or amendment of Section 43(1)(c).

A media conference (in person and virtually) is being held to raise Injured Workers concerns at 1:00 pm on Thursday, June 26th.

The “in person” media conference will be held at 310-1113 Jade Ct. (the former WSIB office).
